I heard from many lives for whom you were the sunshine,
And hoped that you could dispel the darkness from mine,
Until someone asked me how all your light was spun,
And I wondered who was your secret sun.

I heard from many lives for whom you were the rainfall,
And hoped that you could shower upon my deserted call,

Until someone asked me how all your water was endowed,
And I wondered who was your secret cloud.

I heard from many lives for whom you were the breeze,
And hoped that you could blow away my worries with ease,
Until someone asked me how your wings could sustain,
And I wondered who was your secret mountain.

I heard from many lives for whom you were the river,
And hoped that you could wash over what fate would deliver,
Until someone asked me how all your water you bring,
And I wondered who was your secret spring.

You asked me for nothing, and I still had my doubt,
I couldn’t help wanting to learn what you were about,
Was I blessed to experience someone like you,
Or cursed to question everything about you?

The sunshine, was the sun burning itself away,
The rainfall, was the cloud pouring itself away,
The breeze, was the mountain sanding itself away,
The river, was the spring streaming itself away.

This one is for the Mirror. We’ve all been told, never look a gift horse in the mouth. I have a different take. I look every horse in the mouth, or none. The presumption that learning has to be judgement, and judgement has to be negative is ridiculous. The title was obviously taken from the cult club classic “Aap Jaisa Koi”. It was my way of relating to the things that come into our lives, and our limited interest in understanding the origins of these things that form a part of our life.
